Defining Diversity at C3

Within the context of C3, diversity refers to the relative balance of underrepresented groups in higher education. We define “underrepresented” as individuals who are historically underrepresented (including but not excluded to African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, or other Pacific Islanders). These individuals may also be first-generation college students or have followed nontraditional pathways to college, demonstrating exceptional talent and motivation in the face of adversity, including societal, economic, or academic disadvantages.
